If anyone has any idea what Latis is talking about, raise your hand.
Anyways, updates for the weekend are at your doorstep! Let's open that door and see what's wanting to visit our hard drives.
Abandonia has added 1 new game and 1 extra material. One is Red Storm Rising is a Tom Clancy-inspired game featuring the cold war and lots of naval combat, and the other is box scans for Chaos Overlords. Time to fire up your printers again!
Awtorrent gives us a headsup on their member count, and how many seeds, peers and torrents they feature. Quite unique concept, but they'll need everyone to do a lift in order for them to survive. Keep it up.
FreeGamesBlog infuses some retro with the remake of the original Streets of Rage, a great "Street Fighter"-ish game for the Sega systems, and Rise of the Dragon, a futuristic adventure game from Sierra. An adventure game from Sierra that I may not have heard of? Hmm, interesting..
My favourite goblins except Blount, Ooya and the TDS staff, is Liso over at
Gobliiins Old games. In the recent days he's added Epic Pinball, a game that's pretty self-explanatory, and Hoktris (Cz-version) which is a tetris clone. I sometimes wonder if Liso is a very distant relative of mine, because many of the games he's added are the ones I've played and loved myself. I mean, I loved a minigolf-game when I was a kid. I didn't know the name until Liso added "Hole in One Minigolf" and everything just "bam!" came back through the magic of nostalgia. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
We at
The DOS Spirit gives you the "get out of jail freecard" to freely roam around Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto! Man, this game was so classic it made kids go amok and parent to worry senselessly. But hey, it has never been so fun running over Hare Krishnas before!
Well, I'm quite baffled. If I'm not mistaken
The Good Old Days has been with us for a loooong time, but never in the listings. Why? I have no idea, and I found it rather strange that they suddenly joined us. They've had the AWbanner up on their site for as long as I can remember. Anyhoe, they're celebrating some anniversary, and today's update is of the educational kind; Pub Trivia Simulator. Mr. Creo himself says it's good for your grays.
Superslacker Latis and his
XTC Abandonware (Extacy Abandonware??!) added a platform game called Alcatraz from 1992. He has also revealed that he's working on a new version of XTC. So far it's in beta, and if he listens to me, it might turn out quite good. ; ) You're welcome Latis.
That's that for the updates. I haven't updated the "Retro Recommendations" in a while. Time to fix that! *Drumroll*
Bakkelun's Retro Recommendation
Title: Giants Citizen Kabuto
Cover:
Released: 2000
Platforms: PC, Mac, PS2
Why I think you should play it:
Unique playability, you play the campaign through 3 races all with their distinct features. The game world offers lots of "fantasy" and immersion for you to constantly go "Woah". Lots of humor and a light-weight approach to an alien themed game. Absolutely terrific soundtrack, memorable EVEN TODAY!
Description:
In GCK you play as two different species trying to save the world from Kabuto, a creation from the Sea Reapers. (You'll also play as Kabuto.) The three types of species are the Meccs, a Sea Reaper princess named Delphi, and the big hunk of mass Kabuto. Each species has its own unique style. The Meccs remind me a lot of the old Super Metroid game. You are equipped with a spacesuit, a jetpack, and a gun. Need I say more? Where GCK shines is the sound -- it's crisp and altogether memorable. The cut scenes between missions showcase the British humor at its best. I don't want to give anything away, but you'll get a lot of "bathroom humor" and a lot of oddities.

Where to get it:
At Amazon of course. And it's damn cheap too, around 4 dollars! It's a SCOOP!
