Legacy News #2005
Only two updates today. Where are you guys?
I got some not so new news for you. Many of you might already know about this, because the site is up for over half an year now, but I only found out about it less than two months ago on a note on DOSBox.com. I'm talking about GOG.com (as in "good old games").
Put simply, they sell downloads of good old games at prices from of US$6 to $10 (or less with coupons or in bundles). But there's much more to it than you'd expect. They guarantee support, documentation, the latest patched version and, now this is something, all games working on XP and Vista, like any modern game, no matter how old. I got for example DOS classic Jagged alliance from them. It works like any modern game.
Another huge feature: all games are DRM-free, meaning you can download them at will after you buy them, install wherever you want, make your backup copies all you want, and don't need a working internet connection to play the games.
"Old games?" you ask. Yes, mostly from 1997 to 2002, as far as I could see. Among the steals I found there, I can easily recommend Arx Fatalis, the Jagged alliance series, the Fallout series, the Gothic series, but there's others if you're not into computer roleplaying.
I know this kind of service became considerably popular in the US and Europe with Steam and other sites, but we brazillians are not really familiar with the whole concept at all, so it kept slipping under my radar for a long time. But this site... there's a lot more to say about it. I'm really impressed with many things there. I'll leave it at that for now, but soon I think we'll hear a lot more about it, even here in the ring. Go visit them: GOG.com
