Legacy News #1049
Those of you who follow "the scene" will probably have already heard the sad news: fellow abandonware ring Abandoned Places closed down yesterday. Click here to see Voh's final message. It's a shame really, but if the crew had lost motivation then understandable. Better to make a firm break and shut down officially, rather than letting a site like that wither away and trail off into inactivity. Anyway I wish the guys luck in any future projects they might be involved in.
It's at times like this people talk about the Abandonware scene being in decline... the number of rings does certainly seem to be dwindling. What do you people think? Retro-gaming in its various forms seems to be quite popular these days, but Abandonware itself is just one subset of that genre. Can it survive by itself or is more integration with the rest of the retro-gaming community in some way needed? Not that I claim to have any definite answers myself. All I will say is, intend to keep AR alive and healthy for as long as I can spare the time.
As for Updates today: we have a healthy total of 5 sites each adding a few games to their archives.
