With the recent efficiency of the latest AI models, I've been wondering why the retro gaming community isn't taking advantage of this. I remember back in the old days, plenty of simple layouts and table-design websites would flutter the market.
Now we have all this at our disposal, but I'm not seeing much getting done. We have the opportunity to bring back the glory days and show a younger generation what abandonware is all about. Please don't misinterpret my words. I don't mean give an AI model a game to hallucinate a review; no, I mean we have these tools available, we can accomplish so much in this space, and nothing is being done about it.
I know many of the users who would spend their time updating their websites don't really have that much time anymore... simply because they now have other obligations or because they don't care anymore, and that's fine. That's what life is all about; there's a time for everything.
And that's exactly why I think about this a lot. With the introduction of AI and the many features it offers, we should be seeing this translated into our scene. We can come up with websites in a matter of hours with all the bells and whistles. Before, you would actually need to go ahead and learn PHP and learn about MySQL. Now users don't really need this. You do need some type of knowledge, but it's not a requirement.
I think this era is one of the last chances we got to turn things around. And what bothers me the most is that retro gaming as a whole is still a big thing. We have people collecting games at the same rate or even higher than 10 years ago. So there is interest in these old games.
In our community we have some wonderful websites, like Computer Emuzone, which have been online for almost 30 years. Newer-ish websites like Amiga Paradise, which is one of the few websites pushing for innovation and user participation. If you are not following them on our Discord, you are missing out. Mantalow, the webmaster, shares all of the website's developement, the struggles, the victories and the day to day chores to keep the website online and fresh.
It's time we use the tools we have at our dispossal in order to create a more vibrant community. We don't have much time left.
