We're launching a new section here at tAR. And we couldn't do it any other way than to show off IA Launcher. In this section, we are going to cover one of our members. The idea is to show off the huge potential you can find here. But don't take my word for it, here's what the author of the app says on his website:
A Homage to the MS-DOS games of the 1990s
The year is 2026, but let's travel back to the glory days of the 1990s, the heyday of DOS gaming. IA Launcher is a Windows/macOS/Linux program that runs on modern machines and allows you to easily play the DOS games of yestermillennium.
IA Launcher comes pre-loaded with the metadata of thousands of DOS games that are publicly availably from the Internet Archive. If you haven't already, please visit their website and leave a donation for the excellent work they're doing!
How does it work?
IA Launcher is a frontend for DOSBox, which is an emulator for MS-DOS. When you launch a game, it first downloads the game from the Internet Archive, then starts DOSBox with the correct parameters to launch the game.
IA Launcher was created by Jaap Joris Vens as a personal hobby project. By releasing it publicly I hope others get to enjoy it as well.
