Legacy News #1585

Long time since I've posted news here I know. I just got back from a seven day Caribbean cruise and am slowly catching up on work. Maybe I will post a link to some of the pictures I took... Unfortunately I couldn't find any good castles/forts to visit down there. I was only on the islands of St. Thomas and St. Martin so there wasn't that much to visit (besides the beach).

Anyways updates are up so there is plenty for you to do today. A friend of mine told me he would re-program this...

Legacy News #1583

A pricetag on old games? Well, of course!

*turns on music*

Yay! Behold, weekend is once more here! Work makes one busy, as always, but weekend offers sparetime to the hobby I love most; old games. In this update, I'd like to highlight some of the best of what's out there for old titles, more spesifically re-relases of old titles in "new" boxes.

Every so often, games that have been abandoned by the profit-marked, gets released again by some publisher that wants to offer those titles once again, for a small price. It's more of a symbolic sum so to speak, and gives the publisher something in return for offering those once sold out titles to the public.

Among the companies that fit this list, we find "Sold Out", "Xplosiv", "Mastertronic", "Best Buy" and "Fun Club" to mention a few. I bet that if you collect video games, at least one title in your shelf is a re-release. That being a good thing though.

The good thing is that both old and new titles may fall into this segment, making it available to the end user for a ridicolously low price (Usually 2 or 3 for £10/$19-20). If you take a peek at what titles are available, you'll be surprised about the variety. Let me paint you a picture with my imaginary brush:

  • Sim City 3000

  • Commandos

  • Descent 1-2-3

  • Heroes of Might & Magic 2

  • Worms (all of them)

  • Sacrifice

  • Theme Park World

  • The Tomb Raider-series

  • Thief-series

  • Deus Ex-series

  • Championship Manager-series

  • Homeworld (1&2)

  • Broken Sword (1&2 + collection packs)

  • Carmageddon

  • MDK 1 & 2

And the list goes on. As you can see, the collection is varied, offers both old and new games, and as an additional bonus gives you the box to hug every night. This isn't only a wet dream for collectors, it's a heaven-sent for nostalgia-fans all over.

I recently bought a Worms Collection pack with both Worms 2 & Worms Armageddon. Take it from me, there's hardly any fun that tops multiplayer face-offs in the good old Worms-fashion way. Shower enemies with explosive soft fruits, mad cows, french sheep airstrikes and old women. What better way to start the weekend?

Oh, and I almost forgot, the updates above is also a good way to get a hint of what old title to buy next! Until next time, see you around.
