Legacy News #1924

Weekend is nearly done, so here are some fresh updates to set your teeth into! For those of you lazy retros out there, here's what's on the menu:

A Force for Good haven't yet forgotten about the Olympic games, and put in the mood with The Games: Summer Challenge.

C:DOS Abandonware takes a jump into cyberspace where Captain Blood has been trapped in one of his own games and need to get out.

DJ Oldgames travels to the medieval age with a horrible title known as Witchhaven. You play a knight in a FPS focusing on hand to hand combat, trying to stop an evil witch from opening up a portal that would pour demons into Prime Realms. Did I say I hate this game?

Free Abandonware adds a news item about Amazon: Guardians of Eden in italian. As a matter of fact, this entire site is in italian. Also, they link to XTC Abandonware for the file. This game is one of the first ever to utilize SVGA graphics, even though people say the game itself sucks vacuum.

Gobliiins Old Games, or should I say Starinky (?) added an obscure game called Shell Game. By the looks of it, it looks like a guessing game where you have to find out under which cup the pea is. Weird, I know.

For those of you using an old Amiga emulator, Oldschool Computer is there for the rescue. They've added WinUAEm version 1.5.2. Goodies!

Wandrell over at The Good Old Days has written a review for Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion. Dangerous Dave is this time in...you guessed it, a Haunted Mansion. Armed only with a shotgun with 8 shells, you have to make sure you make every bullet count, or you'll face certain death - and start the whole level over again.

We at The DOS Spirit couldn't ignore the major news from EA, and of course added the review for Red Alert!. The bonavidê battleship of a strategy game that closely followed C&C from 1995, is one of the most successful games in the C&C franchise. This is the game that tought americans the basics of the russian language: "Ah-fermatiff", "Comrade!" and "Achk-knolewgded!". Being a communist never was this fun, and the FMV were simply stunning for its time.

Last, but not least, Latis and his XTC added some dogfighting with Their Finest Hour - The Battle of Britain. Get up in the skies and show them how a maverick should taste!

That's surely a mouthful! Check them out when you got the time.

A Thanks from the Staff @ The DOS Spirit
