Legacy News #2031
Back once again, for the retro master!
Want back in the loop after a hectic weekend? Have no fear, here's what's going on:
Now, it may not be easter yet, but that doesn't stop Abandonia Reloaded from giving us some quality crime noir anno the 50s. In Fate By Numbers you control Alice, a private investigator that needs to get a certain briefcase. Now, except for being a massive download (1.2GB) for a freeware game, everything is done FMV, with similarities to i.e Wing Commander. Now that's something you don't see every day!
C:DOS Abandonware adds a review for D-Day: The Beginning of The End - a World War II simluator much in the same sense a niché SSI made big bucks with back in the day.
The retro records keeps spinning over at DJ Oldgames, and this time around we're heading out to the seven seas! Take up your sword, because there be landlubbers ahoy in Sid Meier's Pirates! Aye, thar be rum to be had here laddie.
GoFish Games added the freeware version of Crayon Physics, (not the paid deluxe one!), and this is something everyone should play! Remember those sketches you made when you were bored in class? Well, here they're brought to life, as you take on gravity in order to get the star on each level. Highly recommended!
Mr.Oldgames reminds us that sunday is, you guessed it, newspaper day! And who else than the Paperboy has to deliver 'em? That's right, you take control over a delivery boy on his bike, cycling around throwing papers (hopefully) on people's doorsteps. Of course, the obstacles makes that hard to accomplish sometimes..
My man Liso1 over at Starinky (which I was told means "Old crap" in checzk) always suprises us with games you never heard of. Today it's Highway Fighter, a top-down driving game that looks much like SpyHunter mixed with some healthy arsenals.
We at The DOS Spirit added something I've been longing for a long time. It's a pastiché of the 40s generation's love for sci-fi in Flight of the Amazon Queen! You control Joe King (Joking), a vagabond and pilot who crashes in the jungle while in transit. But for those wanting a quiet stroll down jungle-lane can forget that, there's mad scientists and dinosaurs abound!!
The Good Old Days follows the steps of Abandonia Reloaded, and packs more crime in this update. Under investigation is "The Hollywood Murders", where you as a private detective have to find a lady's missing husband. Sound cliché? Well, the twist here is that you can play it both in a graphical and textual version, which adds some variation.
That's it this time around. Until next time,
stay retro!
