Legacy News #2085

September 29, 2009 • Author: Lone Lee

Let's get back on track!

Last week I brought up the concern that there are no good cyberpunk roleplaying video games. I mentioned the only exceptions were the Deus Ex series and Shadowrun for Genesis.

Although everyone's quick to remind me that System Shock is the best cyberpunk RPG ever created, I got news: when there's no dialog, there's no roleplaying, even if the story is cool! So, unfortunately, I was right. There are cool cyberpunk adventure and strategy games, but we're still lacking in cyberpunk RPGs.

Although the result of this quick research is disappointing, there are still *some* games worth noting:

Shadowrun (SNES): ok enough but mostly fit for die-hard cyberpunk fans; still lacks the easier controls, cooler battles, much more advanced Matrix and larger party and equipment options of the Genesis game.
Neuromancer: many consider it an RPG, I consider it another innovating cross-genre adventure like System Shock. Very dated nowadays but very nice.
Omikron - the nomad soul: appears to be a great game but won't run at home, so I can't really say. I'm still to properly try it.
Circuit's edge: in a world of little cyberpunk roleplaying, we pick cross-genre games like this. Still well worth playing.

Back to ring business though: had two applicants denied due to not linking back to us. Pity! Still, we have accepted a new czech site to our ranks! Looks like the eastern european abandonware scene is still *very* hot. So now, all welcome our new member, Old Games No Limit!
