Legacy News #2168

May 13, 2011 • Author: Bakkelun

Updates are a bit sporadic nowadays, real life business and all that, and I'm relying too much on others to catch up on my slack.

Anyways, good things comes to those who wait (hopefully). Here are the updates this time:

After a long time being absent, Abandonware DOS is back on the update list. Their most recent additions include Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Uncharted Waters and Hexx: Heresy of the Wizard - the latter a RPG game much like Lands of Lore and the Might and Magic Series.
Computer Emuzone includes Quasar Wars, a top down shooter along with a game spesific update from a long lost company called Opera Soft (not to be confused with Opera, Software). These games range across all kinds of platforms such as Amstrad, Spectrum and the MSX. The games are Sol Negro, Mutan Zone, Gonzzalezz, Ulises and Abadia del Crimen, La.
The empire, FreeGame Empire adds Terminator: Future Shock and Romance of The Three Kingdoms 3 , a civilization kind of game where you're a chinese commander trying to conquer as many states as possible. Did you know that Terminator: Future Shock was actually released by Bethesda Softworks (1995) ? For you younger people, you know this company through Fallout 3, Oblivion and the coming Skyrim game.
The good people at Gameswin are surely sexing things up with "Biing!: Sex, Intrigue and Scalpels". That doesn't sound like a very safe or healthy combination at all! It's a strategy game at its core, but with added sexyness to sell more (probably). Other games in this update include Astro Fire, which sucks ass beyond all recognition, and Floor 13 a detective game.
My Abandonware adds to games this update, Race! which unsurpricingly is a racing game that is very basic and Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals. Now that's a tongue twister...
It's been a long time since Noah Games were in the update batch, but here they are and adds Micro Machines, Monopoly Deluxe, Mortal Kombat and Mystic Towers. That's one solid update!
Ah, nice to see Old Games for You back with more updates. This time they want us to play Ween - The Prophecy, from the same company that made the Gobliiins games, Coktel Vision. If you enjoyed games like Lost in Time, Myst and obscure puzzles like in Goblins 3: Quest, then this it totally worth a look! More of these!
Old Gaming is enjoying the winter season in Ski or Die and sailing the seven seas in 1869. If you've played Seven Kingdoms of Gold/Colonization, you have a rough estimate of what it is. It was developed by Max Design, the same company that developed Burntime, amongst others.
RetroGames.cz is paying tribute to the consoles with Contra Force for the NES, Golden Axe Warrior for the SEGA and Operation C (Contra/Probotector) for the Gameboy. Contra for the NES is an absolute classic, think that there were a portable version of it as well! Camping trips are saved!
DOSGames have added two new games since last time. Blood, which I guess everyone know and "HorkοΏ½ lοΏ½to" an adventure game I presume no one have heard of.
Cat smushing and Smush The Cat is going out for a flight in Fury 3. It was one of those games that came with the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick and reminds us of Terminal Velocity. It's actually not that bad - for a win95 game.

Finally, The Good Old Days reviews a SUPER CLASSIC game, namely The Legend of Zelda for the NES and a more brutal one, Carmageddon. Both are known worldwide, but on very different premises.

Phew! That was one gigantic update. Some years back I introduced something called Retro Recommendation - a column of sorts where I recommended an old game every time I had an update people could try out if they needed tips. It's been some years now, so it's time I swing the retro axe once again and throw out a recommendation.

So, *drumroll*, if you like competitive games then try out Kings of the Beach!

Until next time, stay retro!

Note:Previous item got garbled and resulted in no author. We got some monkeys looking at it now therefore a double post.
