Talk about irony
Well, some days ago I posted the link to the initial article that fused around capturing video from DOSBox. There are many providers out there where one can upload these videos for others to see, among these there's Google Video - a trusty partner for many webmasters relying on these services on nearly a daily basis. Now, however, it looks like we're becoming victims of our own dependency. Google Video has for a month and still is at the time of writing, plagued with something best described as "the 2 second grey syndrome" which basically turns all of your uploaded content into 2 seconds of video displaying a solid grey colored video no matter how long your video was.
The users are furious, and that with a good cause too. It looks like Google isn't taking the matter very seriously, and since it only affects the Desktop Uploader (so far), there hasn't been much response. Yesterday, however, there seemed to be light. Google apparently knows about the problem and is looking into the matters as we speak.
I can only speak for us at The DOS Spirit, but Google Video now stands for all of our gameplay videos and is an essential part of what we do. I guess one could say "never rely too much on others", but Google is so huge and judging from the stable service they've offered on other turfs, things should seem reliable enough in the first place, right?
Well, I certainly hope they get a solution to the problem and fast. Even though services like Youtube is waaay more popular, they claim ownership of your videoes and their player looks like poo. Google Video on the other hand doesn't claim ownership (even though they own Youtube!) and their sleek neutral player fits to the idea of keeping things simple, pure and efficient.
For all of you depending on Google Video, let's keep our fingers crossed. Meanwhile you could check the updates above (wether they have videos or not!).
Edit: On a lighter note, I came over this; the 8-bit tie! Mario would be proud!!!!!

Not much time, just a quick update.
Bakkelun's right, DOSBox recording videos is one of the best inventions of mankind since the invention of coffee and chocolate cookies!
Two historical reminders
I would like to highlight two quick things: First of all; I've mentioned this many times before, but it can't be adressed enough: Da Fast Lane is still alive at the following adress: http://www.surg3.com/dfl Go and join the scene community. A simple must for anyone in the scene. Get known, get famous, get laid.
And second, this is a bit ego-tripping, but I would like to give you a historical reflection into the days before DOSBox could capture video. I like to believe my initial article on Da Fast Lane written approx 2 1/2 years ago on how to record video footage from DOSBox was the humble beginning to something big. Funny thing is, today most webmasters incorporate gameplay footage onto their website in one way or the other.
