Boo!

Start of the weekend in my part of the world, and what better way to start it than relive some of those precious moments from our past? Ladies and gents, this is the reason we love history:

Abandonia gives us World Class Rugby and Star Reach this update. The first is amazingly enough a rugby game, and the last addition is a strategic space game where the ultimate goal is to rule the universe. Graphics looks neat.

Abandonware Utopia enters this update with a frenzy of new titles! According to my numbers here, they claim to have added 110 new ones! There's no way in hell I'm listing even the half of those. The newest ones seems to be Ultima 6 and Ultima Underworld. That's pure classic-ness right there.

My brother Nocturn over at the DOS Spirit did the update this time around, and added Space Goose; an action packed space-arcade game where you control a ship that looks like a goose, and have to blast and avoid obstacles along the way. This game offers more shades of Cyan than you can possible imagine..

Swizzle's Girls of Abandonware continues to preserve the sexy side of bits and bytes by adding a pack of mindblazing 13 new games. "A dream Come True", "The Clairvoyant" and "Fantasy 5: Program & Stories" are just to mention a few. Since all of these are adult-marked, I bet you can guess the story..

Liso and his band of mates over at Gobliins Old Games adds Slicks 'n Slide a racing game from a top-down perspective, and Hocus Pocus, an old time platform classic from Apogee.

Holyfile fills today's update with Sango Fighter, a game similar to the game with almost the same name; Street Fighter, and Pocket Tanks, a tank game like the classics Scorched Earth and Tanks where you set the angle, power and hope to hit the enemy.

Noodan adds 3 new games, Car a typical top-down racing game where you have to avoid mines, Kindergarten Killer where you absurdly enough have to rid the kindergarden from evil kids and Super Mario Quiz a..well you guessed it, a quiz-game.

The always well-smelling people over at Reloaded gives us a racing game much like Micro Machines, but with a twist of quarantine. "Machines of Destruction" is the manifestation of car combat gone good. The game also packs additional game modes and features, like listen to your own mp3 music, and compose your own weapons. Worth a check!

The Abandonware Blog brings food for thought today. They talk about the past of gaming, how it has all affected us and what broader horizon it gives those who's been living through dawn-, golden-, and present age of games. Sometimes it's nice to reflect.
Also, The Abandonware Blog has a new crewmember, more spesifically the fellow from Just Games Retro. I'll hand it to him, his reviews are candy to behold, makes me proud to be the one who accepted his application.

In other news I'd like to highlight that, in tradition to what we did over at the DOS Spirit last year, there will be a Christmas Calendar which hopefully will be a collaboration through the scene.
The idea is that one site presents one review, and the others collaborating in the project, links to that site. The next day there will be another site etc. This continues for each day in December from the 1st to the 24th. Might be a bold idea, but we'll have to see.

Lastly, for those wondering about the Scene Interviews; Since it requires alot of thorough planning, it will take some time to process all of the interested webmasters. Have patience, I'm working on it.

Today I finally managed to review the applications that have been hanging down here for several days now. One of them made it to our listing: all welcome Sim Abandonware Ressurrection! They specialize in Maxis' "Sim" series, they got them all.

The other applicant implied we smoke weed from a crackpipe, cool, but forgot to link back to us! Oh dear, that's not the way it works. Apply again if you will, but now linking back...

Abandonia added The lost patrol. I never played it.

Gosfish added two new games, one of which they claim to be one of the best platformers ever created: Cave story!

Finally Gobliiins added 1984 classic Alley cat.

Talk to you guys later!

As pointed out by Neopickaze from DaFastLane some time ago, a great deal of abandonware sites has been appearing in east Europe -- mostly quality sites that don't speak english. Here we have a new one in our listings: all welcome AbandonWorld, our newest member!

I refused one application today and I know Bakkelun refused a few others yesterday, not because the sites were bad but because once again they didn't comply to our simple rules of membership. Go figure. So, umm, now I see we don't have any more new applicants to review -- you other applicants know what happened then. If you choose to re-apply, please consider reading our rules of membership and preparing your sites accordingly.

On the updates side.... lots of updates. Today's highlight is once again The Game Archives, adding a few more thousands of games... ah the old and good times of sites with endless lists of direct links to the files... practically no information, just the file-leeching it's been a while...
